Welcome to the page for the Walworth County Educational Consortium Alternative High School.
My name is Kelly Demerath and I am the principal of the school.
I graduated from UW-Green Bay (Go Packers!) with a degree in Political Science and Social Studies education. I have worked in large schools and small schools all over Wisconsin. One school even had a "bring your tractor to school" day! After earning my master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from UW-Madison (Go Badgers!), my family moved to Milwaukee and I led an alternative school in West Milwaukee/West Allis. At this time, I also began to work with teachers gaining their master's degrees from UW-La Crosse and Viterbo University. I am lucky to work with kids and teachers who want to learn and grow.
Now I find myself leading AHS and am thankful for the opportunity to work at a great school, with equally great students and staff.
While the school began in 1990 as a collaborative effort between Elkhorn, Lake Geneva, Delavan-Darien, Williams Bay and Big Foot School Districts, it continues to be a great place for students to achieve their goals of graduating and moving on to successful post-secondary paths in education, military service or the world of work.
I began as the principal of the school in 2012 and believe that AHS is a great place for kids to learn and finish up their high school education. While our school is small, 100 students and 6 staff, it is a wonderful place for students to learn the core academic skills in Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science to complete their journey to a high school diploma.
